MY HELICOPTER ADVENTURE - by Nick

HOW MOST FOLKS SEE MAUI BY AIR - a glimpse from a jet airliner...
If you've read this far on
our website, you probably know by now that I make my living as a commercial
Airline Pilot for a major airline. In fact, I routinely fly from DFW to Maui,
and so I've had many opportunities to see the island by air. What I could not
have anticipated was how unique an experience it is to tour Maui by helicopter -
it is entirely different than seeing the island from the cockpit of my Boeing
767.
How? Well, our jet arrival into Maui involves keeping well away from the island until north of the Maui valley. Thus, we see the Maui mountains only from a distance. We next fly directly down the valley and align ourselves with runway 02 at Kahului airport. At the speeds we fly, we are keeping a sharp eye out for other flying traffic - as well as insuring compliance with any altitude and speed restrictions imposed by Maui air traffic control.
So, in other words - it's always a delight to fly into Maui, but sightseeing is absolutely not a top priority on approach into the airport - and we have the best seat in the house. As a passenger, you're too busy putting away your tray table, putting your seat in the full-upright position, and stowing your personal items to notice much scenic beauty. Plus, after 8+ hours in coach, you are only thinking about getting out of that plane and onto the beach!
We're flying fast and at altitudes not that great for sightseeing. I've discovered a better way to see the islands by air - a helicopter tour with BLUE HAWAIIAN HELICOPTER TOURS!
BLUE HAWAIIAN HELICOPTERS: HOW A FEW LUCKY FOLKS REALLY SEE MAUI + THE OTHER ISLANDS
I recently took a :90 minute flight
with Blue Hawaiian to sightsee over the West Maui Rainforest and the island of
Molokai. It was incredible! I have over
15,000 hours of flying experience - most of it in jet aircraft - and it was one
of the most special experiences of my life. I want to recommend it to you as
well. Here's why:
WHAT YOU'LL SEE:
Depending on the trip you choose, you'll see Maui or the other islands via Blue Hawaiians fleet of ECO-Star & ASTAR helicopters. These helicopters are flown for their unsurpassed safety record, their incredible views, quietness, and space within the cabin. They are quiet and comfortable!
A helicopter tour gives you the sense of gently soaring, bird-like, over areas which are absolutely inaccessible to land vehicles. Depending on the tour you select, you'll see volcanoes, rainforests, hidden waterfalls, sheer cliffs, maybe even a whale or two! In my flying career, which includes lots of exciting military flying - including supersonic flight - nothing quite compares to a Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tour.
